High School and Young Adult Ministry

Mission Statement

"The one who plants and the one who waters are equals and each will receive wages in proportion to their labor. For we are God's co-workers; you are God's field, God's building." (Corinthians 3:8-9)

The mission of the High School and Youth Ministry is rooted in the mission of the Catholic Church and the Hamakua Catholic Community. The HSYM is committed to assisting our parish in the development of ministry with, by and for young people.

Values

Grounded in the mission statement, the Catholic Youth Ministry Office upholds these values:

• The giftedness of all young people.
• The mission of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Honolulu.
• The wisdom of collaborative leadership.
• The importance of trained, committed adult leaders.
  

Goals

1. To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
2. To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, misison, and work of the Catholic faith community.
3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Based on the philosophy, mission, and values of the Catholic Young Ministry Office, we strive to meet these goals by:

• Providing training and information opportunities for youth ministry leaders to carry out effectively their role in educating and forming young people as Catholic Christians.
• Educating the wider chruch and civic community on issues related to young people and youth ministry.
• Providing opportunities for youth and adults to experience the larger Church community as members of the Body of Christ.
• Advocating for the needs of young people.
